The Education Research and Measurement program takes seriously its role in conducting quality evaluations of hospital education initiatives and in providing evidence for program improvement, decision-making, and of impact and value. Our program also just won a significant three-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to evaluate CCHMC's Quality Improvement training initiative. PURPOSE OF POSITION: To design, execute, and analyze multiple research, evaluation, and measurement projects for education at CCHMC. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop, design, implement evaluation and research studies of education. 2. Conduct analyses and develop reports based on study results. 3. Evaluate the impact of educational investments. 4. Manage data collection, entry, and production of regular reports. 5. Support the development of tests and the analysis of test quality. 6. Support members of the Education and Training department and other departments in project design, data collection, and interpretation of results. 7. Build the capacity of others to understand and use evaluation for improvement and decision-making. 8. Provide internal consulting to staff and management. 9. Maintain currency and professional development in field through continuing education literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the CCHMC education community. 10. Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. 11. Understand, adhere to and model CARES and other Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit. 12. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS: Proficiency with software applications relevant to research and evaluation including spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS) is required. Proficiency with Access or other database software is desired, as is proficiency with qualitative software tools (e.g., NVivo). Proficiency with data management including quality assurance for data and an ability to structure data files. Understanding of the dynamics of a large, complex organization and the implications for evaluating program impact in this environment. Competency with both qualitative and quantitative methods in the design of studies and analysis of results. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to relate to professionals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work in a consultative manner and as a member of a team. An independent work initiative and a professional demeanor. EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree is required, Doctoral degree preferred, in program evaluation or related field or applied research in the social science or education. Experience evaluating educational/training or professional development programs is also preferred.
